Project Objectives:

We hope that more schools in the county will participate in New York Harvest for NY Kids in the Fall. It is a wonderful chance to try a small scale project and introduce the
concept of buying locally.

Plans For The Future:

Cornell Cooperative Extension will continue to encourage local producers to see schools as a marketing opportunity. We will also work will schools to help overcome real and perceived barriers to buying locally.

Project Partners:

South Jefferson School
Cindy Harnas, Food Service Director
Serves local products from 7 different farms in the district.

Sackets Harbor Central School
Brian Doxtater, Food Service Director
Buys produce from 3 local farms.

Carthage Central School
Chris Thomas, Food Service Director
Purchases vegetables from several local farmers.

LaFargeville School
Has a wellness committee that is interested in learning more about farm to school.

Cornell Cooperative Extension
Hosts 2 meetings each year to discuss farm to school issues. We encourage producers and food service directors to share their concerns and create opportunities to work together.
