Every year, more and more schools throughout the state organize events for New York Harvest for New York Kids. This fun celebration is an opportunity for schools and communities to learn about New York agriculture, enjoy locally-grown foods, and inspire healthy food choices. Cafeterias feature NY farm products; classrooms do food-tastings; students visit farms and farmers’ markets, or harvest their school gardens.
Here's a few things you can do:
- Serve NY Produce. By doing so you'll support good nutrition for children while supporting local farmers. Waldorf salad, butternut squash cookies...Get creative with your menu items!
- Try a "new to you" New York grown fruit or vegetable.
- Visit a farm or shop at a farmer's market. Get to know those who grow your food.
- Learn about local agriculture. Invite a farmer into your classroom.
- Most importantly, enjoy the wide variety of quality foods from our state.
